aflatoxins in tissues and diets of farmed white shrimp (litopenaeus vannamei)

abstract
aflatoxins (afs) are one of the most important mycotoxins due to their common occurrence in feedstuffs and feeds that pose a serious threat to humans and animals. although many outbreaks of acute and chronic diseases have been attributed to consumption of aflatoxin-contaminated foods, the most significant effect of aflatoxin is hepatotoxicity in farm animals, especially aflatoxicosis in shrimps. in this study, aflatoxins content in tissues and diets of white shrimp collected from farms of helleh, delvar, mond, bandar rig sites, located in bushehr province were determined by isocratic reverse-phase liquid chromatography (hplc). results showed that the highest content of aflatoxin (4.12±0.14 μg kg−1) was obtained from the food that had been used in mond shrimp farmamong all the examined farms. although there were negligible differences between all the groups, significant difference were found between afg1 group and the other groups (p

full textComparison of some reproductive characteristics of farmed and wild white shrimp males Litopenaeus vannamei (Decapoda: Penaeidae).
We rated some reproductive characteristics of white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei (Boone, 1931) males using 46 farmed individuals (weighing 21.42 +/- 0.56 g) and 40 wild individuals (weighing 36.10 +/- 0.72 g). In farmed shrimps, spermatophore mean weight was 8.94 +/- 0.51 mg; total mean sperm count was 3.90 +/- 0.27 x 10(6) in each spermatophore; and mean percentage of normal sperm was 86.9 +/- ...

full textMicrobiota from Litopenaeus vannamei: digestive tract microbial community of Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei)
Bacteria capable of producing different extracellular enzymes of potential relevance in digestive processes were isolated from the stomach, hepatopancreas and intestine of Pacific white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei. A total of 64 strains with proteolytic activity were isolated and grouped into 16 clusters based on morphological characteristics: 4 groups were isolated from the intestine; 5 from t...
full textExperimental broodstock diets as partial fresh food substitutes in white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei B
In the first experiment, conducted in a research facility, Litopenaeus vannamei broodstock were fed either a 100% fresh food control treatment (FRE, consisting of frozen squid, oyster, mussel and enriched Artemia biomass in a 2.3:1.4:1.3:1 dry matter ratio) or one of the two treatments in which 50% [dry matter (DM)] of the fresh food was substituted with experimental artificial diets: a dry die...

The total haemocyte count (THC), phenoloxidase activity, respiratory burst, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, phagocytic activity and clearance efficiency in response to pathogen Vibrio alginolyticus were measured when the white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei (18.4 +/- 1.2 g) were injected individually with noradrenaline at 10(-8), 10(-7) and 10(-6) mol shrimp(-1). For the shrimp that received ...
